The village of Oosteeklo is originally an agricultural village in the heart of the Meetjesland. In addition to a few local bakers and butchers, you will of course find some cafés and even home brewery Den Tseut (www.huisbrouwerijdentseut.be) where you can taste a delicious local beer.

The 13th-century abbey of Oosteeklo is about a 2 km walk from the B&B. In its current form, only the old guest house remains after the other abbey buildings were destroyed in the Middle Ages as a result of the iconoclasms. In the immediate vicinity of the abbey you will also find the Pig Walk, a unique experience where the local culture surrounding the pig is explained in an educational and funny way. Within walking distance of the B&B you will find the Abbey Farm (Abdijhoeve) where horse lovers Hugo Boelens and family would like to take you on a nice trip through Oosteeklo and surroundings with a traditional carriage or covered wagon. More info and reservation www.vandeabdijhoeve.be.

The polder village Boekhoute has a specific past because of its location and history. In addition to the visitor center, you will also find an exhibition space in the former church. There is currently an exhibition about Great Women in World War I. More info on www.assenede.be/bezoekerscentrum

Ertvelde evolved from an agricultural village in the second half of last century to a living village bordering the industrial area of Ghent Canal Zone. The Motte castle and pilgrimage town Stoepe chapel are worth a visit. More info on http://www.evergem.be/thema.aspx?id=4463

As a reminder of the agricultural past of Ertvelde, you will find a unique combination of stone mill and horse mill on the same yard. The miller Johan Van Holle still practices the profession. Provinciaal Streekcentrum Huysmanhoeve is the ideal starting point for the discovery of the Meetjesland. You will find the tourist office of the Meetjesland and can get acquainted with the different aspects of this fascinating region: nature, culture, history, landscape and recreation. Back to public transport from a bygone time: a ride of about 10 km with the steam train through the Meetjesland. Events and theme days are regularly organized. You can find the timetable and more information about this volunteer work on www.stoomcentrum.be
